FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Boston,
January 2006 - The In-Time
Infant Mental Health Training (In-Time)
series, coordinated by Thom Child
& Family Services and funded by the Mollie Hirshberg Fund
and Thom Boston Regional Consultation Program, kicks off on Monday
January 23, 2006. The series will offer ten, half-day workshops
for staff members from Boston area Early Intervention Programs.
Workshops will be held at Bay Cove Human Services Early Intervention
Program in Dorchester.
In-Time training supports
the science behind Early Intervention and relationship based Infant
Mental Health practices. It addresses the gap between what we know,
based on brain research, and the role parents and Early Interventionists
play in shaping a child’s development during his/her earliest
years. The training is designed to provide in-depth preparation
and supervision to Early Intervention home visitors.
In-Time curriculum was
developed by Libby Zimmerman, Ph.D., L.I.C.S.W. and Thom Child &
Family Services, with funding from the Irene E. and George A. Davis
Foundation. In-Time training was piloted
by Dr. Zimmerman, with Early Intervention staff, in Springfield,
in 2004.
Dr. Zimmerman, a leader in the field of infant-toddler
mental health, is again heading up the In-Time
training team in Boston. Among the topics to be covered in the Boston
In-Time series are: Early Brain Development
and Early Detection of Mental Health Problems in Young Children,
What Infants and Toddlers Bring to Relationships – Interpreting
Infant-Toddler Behavior, What Parents Bring to the Relationship
– Exploring Parental Mental Health Challenges and Sources
of Resilience, and The Influence of Culture in Shaping Care-giving
Beliefs and Values.
